Excellent stove, very powerful

We wanted a powerful but efficient stove for use in a smoke control zone and this one seemed to tick all the boxes. We have not been disappointed. In mid-winter, the stove heated three rooms in our 1920s uninsulated detached house. In autumn and spring, it heats the entire 5 bedroom house, albeit with temperatures varying from 17-23C between rooms. We have not really had to use the central heating much as a result and we managed to save about £200 this winter compared to our condensing gas boiler, despite having to buy all our wood logs. The stove is very economical with logs and burns everything to a fine ash which can just be scooped out. The flame picture is very much as advertised: when the fire is up to temperature the entire stove is a large circulating vortex of fire, amazing to watch. Friends and family get together around the fire making it a feature of the house in a way a central heating system never can be. We have had only one minor problem: occasionally the venting handle gets stuck in the open vent position, but a little prod at the mechanism underneath the stove (left of the handle) solves that. The only other potential issue I can see is the 8Kw output. It works well in our house because it has a large hall to which all the other rooms open. If this stove is to be used to heat just one room, then that room would need to be very large (or draughty) to do justice to this stove. Like most high efficiency stoves, it works best when the temperature inside the stove is very high triggering secondary burn. When that happens you literally see the black smoke burn away, meaning a nice clean window and stove. But it also means that the efficiency drops if you try to run it at low temperature plus you get soot on the window (which thankfully is easy to clean) and in the chimney (which is not). If the output is too high, please note that Burley do very similar stoves with 3, 4 and 5kw outputs. One other point to note is that it is worth installing the room sealing kit if you can, as it seems to keep the heat in, and it means you do not need a vent in the room (which pulls in cold air from outside). Trust me, it really made a difference from what we had before.
